Dinner with Flies

People are much like flies these days, swarming near rotted things-

Compelled to glimmers of light.

Sticking to things loud and unpleasant, hoping for sustenance.

Have you ever noticed that flies can’t seem to tell the difference between honey and shit?

They swarm just the same.

There are many things around us that gleam golden like honey - but don’t mean much.

A big empty house

A brand new car

Designer shoes

And the stronger the stench of it all the more they grow in numbers;

Flies, that is.

Loud little things, buzzing about with no real sense of direction.
